Dr. Nina Lüssmann is a partner at BUSE in Hamburg and heads the Reputation Protection and Media Law Practice Group. With over 15 years of specialized experience, she advises and represents nationally and internationally renowned personalities and commercial enterprises in all matters relating to reputation protection, press and freedom of expression law, as well as media and copyright law.

Expertise in Reputation Protection

Nina Lüssmann has been practising press and freedom of expression law since 2009 and has established herself as one of the leading lawyers in this field. The Legal 500 Germany has consistently recommended her since 2019, most recently as a “leading partner”.

Her consulting includes:

  • Defence against violations of personal rights in print, online and social media
  • Strategic advice on crisis communication and media support
  • Enforcement of injunctions, right of reply and claims for damages

Media and copyright law

In addition to reputation protection, Nina Lüssmann advises rights holders, authors, artists and media companies on all issues relating to copyright and media law. She provides legal support for publication projects, drafts contracts in the media and entertainment sector and enforces claims in the event of legal violations.

Her practical experience in this area is underpinned by her previous work as a corporate lawyer at Deutsche Grammophon GmbH, where she independently negotiated and drafted artist, licence and band acquisition agreements.

Academic background

Nina Lüssmann received her doctorate from the University of Hamburg with a grade of “magna cum laude” on the topic of “Personality Protection and Comedy” – a thesis that already focused on the intersection of law, media and personality protection.

Career

Before joining BUSE, Nina Lüssmann worked for ten years at a law firm in Hamburg specialising in press and media law, initially as an employed lawyer and later as a partner.

International focus

Nina Lüssmann is business fluent in English and fluent in French and regularly advises on cross-border mandates.
