With the appointment of Professor Dr. Thorsten Behling as a partner at the Düsseldorf office, BUSE has gained an experienced expert who advises companies on data protection, data management and IT/IP law – particularly at the interface with labour law and in the complementary areas of IT security, IT compliance and IT forensics.
Behling advises national and international companies and groups both in and out of court, audits data protection and security organisations and acts as data protection officer for numerous clients across all industries. He also works as an AI Officer. Behling is a lawyer, ISO/IEC 27001 Lead Auditor and Honorary Professor at the Institute for Intellectual Property, Data Protection and Information Technology (IGEDI) at the Ruhr University in Bochum as well as a lecturer on corporate and AI data protection at Data Kontext GmbH of the German Association for Data Protection and Data Security (GDD e.V.).
Before joining BUSE, Behling worked for twelve years as a partner and managing director at a consultancy firm in the Tier 2 segment, and before that for five years at a Big Four law firm. In addition to his consultancy work for external clients, he was also (Group) Data Protection Officer at both companies.
‚We are delighted to welcome Thorsten Behling to our Düsseldorf office. With his focus on data management law, he ideally complements BUSE’s existing practice in the areas of IT, IP and data protection,’ says Dr. Jan Tibor Lelley, Chairman of BUSE’s Partner Council.
Behling adds: ‘In times of data-driven business models, AI and platform regulation, holistic legal advice with pragmatic solutions is needed. BUSE offers the ideal platform for this and a strong team that supports clients comprehensively with an international network. I am delighted to now be part of this team’.
With the addition of Thorsten Behling, BUSE is strengthening its advisory team in the key legal areas of IT, IP and data protection law. The practice only recently expanded with the addition of Hamburg partner Yves-Alexander Wolff. The expansion of the team follows the significant increase in demand for advice at BUSE in these areas of law and represents a clear, strategic step towards further consolidating and continuously expanding BUSE’s position as a provider in these areas.
